HDTA 2nd Junior Novice Tournament
Sanctioned by USTA Southern California
At 4:30 on the morning of the tournament, the skies opened up and delivered a quarter-inch of rain. The forecast was for winds of 25 mph, with gusts to 40. We could hardly have asked for worse weather.
Yet, on arriving at the courts at 7:00 a.m., we found them virtually dry already, with only a light breeze. HDTA treasurer Rick Golden helped broom off the puddles, and then he and Lela Atkins installed the center straps. After a few minutes with a leaf blower, the courts were ready to play, as were our competitors.
There were many great matches, including the last match of the day between Justin Hu and Brandon Peterson. Neither boy looked to be tired, though, as each covered the court exceptionally well.
The HDTA wishes to thank Andrea for helping with line calls. A special thanks goes out to those competitors who traveled from Acton, Corona, La Verne, Landers, and Yucca Valley, some of whom embarked on the journey to our tournament even though it was still raining where they were.
