Granite Hills stays perfect in league

APPLE VALLEY — Despite Nico Combes' first-set loss in league, the Silverado boys tennis team hung on to remain perfect in the Desert Sky League win Wednesday, edging Granite Hills in total games won, 80-76, after tying 9-9 in sets.

Granite Hills junior Gustavo Rodrigues swept his three sets as the Cougars No. 1, which none of his teammates were able to duplicate on the day. Rodrigues topped Combes 6-2 in the clash of No. 1s.

Granite Hills (9-4, 1-1 DSL) travels to Burroughs on Friday while Silverado (3-0 DSL) plays at Barstow.

Combes 2-6, 6-3, 6-1; Fernandez 1-6, 0-6, 6-0; Zagala 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-0.

SILVERADO DOUBLES

Patch-Lee 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-3; Sanchez-Park 6-2, 6-2, 4-6; Ersoy-Noyer 2-6, 6-2, 3-6.

GRANITE HILLS SINGLES

Rodrigues 6-2, 6-1, 6-4; McCray 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (5); Anderson 0-6, 0-6; Saavedra 1-6.
